This rock climbing facility gives new meaning to Form Follows Function. In the rocky landscape of Mazandaran in Polur, Iran, this new gym facility sits within site of a range of dynamic mountains themselves. The fragmented sharp angles of the elevations clearly reference the landscape it sits within. Large spans of glass allow for the climbers to view the surrounding environment including stunning snow-covered peaks.
The facility also includes a fitness gym, a restaurant, temporary accommodations, a sauna and locker rooms.
What I like about this building is that its bold geometry is site specific and was designed for this unique landscape. I also admire the white fiber cement panels that clad the exterior, allowing the structure to mimic the snowy mountain context. An impressive steel structure with good design and the right materials makes this facility a height of success.
